CHAPTER 5:
I think Piaget’s Cognitive Theory relates to me and almost everyone because of how accurate it is. I can see how I have been through every single stage.
Almost all of this chapter could be related to my own development. I feel like I have learned an abundant amount of information about my growth. While Piaget’s Cognitive Theory is relatable, I want to focus on Elkind’s Adolescent Egocentrism. In my own life, I can look at how I felt about myself in grade school and relate to every single type. Learning about the imaginary audience, the mythological fable, and the personal fable brought out so many thoughts I had about myself and others while growing up.
In an education environment, I definitely want to focus on Elkind’s Adolescent Egocentrism. I think a lot of shame, fear, and pain can come out of the three types without someone realizing it. Thinking certain things about self can lead to many problems dealing with anxiety, stress, depression, and addiction, and I want my students to be free of those things. People pleasing can be a drug, and I absolutely do not want my students to feel like they always must be in their best game.
