Throughout
all of my typewriter artwork, I turn the object into a person. In March
So Far line is used to express how my mind felt during March, which is
swirly and crazy. There is a lot of red signifying
romance. The typewriter is drawn in
graphite and is standing in a hallway with lockers, both opened and closed. The painting screams “high school.” In Wholly
Flowers I used watercolor to drip black paint from the top down the paper,
like in many of the works. This darkness
turns the bright colors dull. The typewriter
is insignificant compared to the flowers.
Feeling Blue symbolizes a person going through the motions. Nothing is happening around them. Sadness is expressed through simplicity and
the color blue.
These pieces are merely personifying typewriters. I chose them as my concentration subject because they are timeworn and forgotten, yet intricate. Technology has grown and people seem to forget about old things. A typewriter is like a million unsaid words, because everyone has moved on. They have no use other than to express thoughts, which, in a way, is like a human.
